How to buy Anthropic pre-IPO

Anthropic has officially filed for its IPO, but ordinary investors still cannot buy Anthropic shares through the stock market just yet.

The Claude maker filed its public S-1 with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on October 26 and confirmed plans to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ANT.

Anthropic has not yet announced how many shares it will sell or the IPO price range, and its registration statement has not become effective.

So, if you’re looking for how to buy Anthropic pre-IPO, there are a few different routes to understand — and they are not all the same as buying actual Anthropic shares.

Can I buy Anthropic stock before IPO?

For most retail investors, not directly.

Anthropic is still a private company despite filing its S-1. Filing for an IPO is an important step towards becoming publicly traded, but it does not make the shares immediately available through a normal brokerage account.

Anthropic has said the shares cannot yet be sold and offers to buy cannot be accepted until the registration statement becomes effective.

That means investors should be careful with any platform claiming to sell ordinary ANT shares today.

Can you trade Anthropic before the IPO?

There is another option for investors in supported markets.

IG currently offers an Anthropic pre-IPO market, allowing traders to take a position on what they think Anthropic will be worth at the end of its first day as a public company.

This is important: you are not buying Anthropic shares.

The IG product tracks expectations for Anthropic’s market capitalisation at its stock-market debut. Positions are cash-settled and do not turn into ANT shares when the IPO happens.

For traders who specifically want exposure to the Anthropic IPO before the stock lists, however, it provides a way of trading the expected valuation ahead of the first day.

Availability and product terms vary by country, so investors should check whether the Anthropic pre-IPO market is offered in their jurisdiction.

Can you buy Anthropic at the IPO price?

Potentially, although this is different again.

Some brokers allow eligible investors to request shares in selected IPOs before those companies start trading publicly.

For example, Webull has a US IPO Centre where customers can apply for shares in offerings made available through the platform.

Public.com also allows eligible US customers to request shares when it receives an allocation for a particular IPO.

At the time of writing, there is no confirmation that Anthropic’s IPO is available for allocation through either Webull or Public.

If ANT does become available through either platform, eligible investors could potentially request shares at the IPO stage rather than waiting for normal Nasdaq trading to begin.

How can you prepare to buy ANT when Anthropic goes public?

For most investors, the simplest route will be to wait until ANT begins normal trading on Nasdaq.

Investors can still prepare beforehand by opening and verifying a brokerage account now and funding it if appropriate.

For example, investors in supported countries can sign up for eToro ahead of Anthropic’s listing, complete the account-verification process and then check whether ANT is available when public trading begins.

Open an eToro account and get ready for the Anthropic IPO

Anthropic’s availability on eToro at launch has not yet been confirmed, so investors should check the trading platform before attempting to place an order.

What is the best way to get Anthropic exposure before the IPO?

It depends on what you’re trying to do.

If you want to trade expectations around Anthropic’s IPO valuation before listing, IG’s pre-IPO market offers one route in supported jurisdictions.

If you want to own real Anthropic shares at the IPO price, watch IPO-access platforms such as Webull and Public to see whether ANT becomes available for allocation.

If you simply want to buy ANT shares once Anthropic becomes publicly traded, opening a brokerage account such as eToro ahead of time is the more straightforward option.

Public companies with exposure to Anthropic

Another way investors can get indirect exposure to Anthropic before ANT starts trading is through publicly listed companies that have invested in the business, supply its infrastructure, or both.

These are not substitutes for owning Anthropic shares directly, but they do give investors some exposure to the company’s growth.

  • Amazon (AMZN): One of Anthropic’s biggest investors and a major cloud infrastructure partner through AWS. Amazon’s filings show it has made substantial equity investments in Anthropic alongside a wider commercial and financing relationship.
  • Alphabet (GOOG): Google has invested billions in Anthropic and is also a major cloud and infrastructure provider to the company. Reuters identifies Amazon and Google among Anthropic’s major strategic investors.
  • Nvidia (NVDA): Nvidia has invested in Anthropic and also benefits from demand for the chips and compute infrastructure needed to train and run advanced AI models.
  • Microsoft (MSFT): Microsoft is part of Anthropic’s wider cloud infrastructure ecosystem and has been linked to investment and commercial agreements with the company.
  • Advanced Micro Devices (AMD): AMD agreed to supply Anthropic with tens of billions of dollars of AI infrastructure and invest up to $5 billion in the company.

Investors should remember that buying Amazon, Alphabet, Nvidia, Microsoft or AMD gives them exposure to much larger businesses, with Anthropic representing only one part of their overall investment case.

When will Anthropic stock start trading?

Anthropic has confirmed that it plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT.

The company has not yet announced the final IPO price, price range or number of shares being sold.

Those are among the next major details investors should watch as Anthropic moves towards its first trading day.
